Blossoms Claim Fifth UK Number 1 Album With 'Songs From The Wedding Cake'

Stockport indie band Blossoms have achieved another significant UK chart milestone, with their latest album, Songs From The Wedding Cake, debuting at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart. This marks the band's fifth UK Number 1 album, following their 2016 self-titled debut, Foolish Loving Spaces (2020), Ribbon Around The Bomb (2022), and Gary (2024).

The Stockport five-piece reached Number 1 despite strong competition from The Beatles, whose 1965 album Rubber Soul finished at Number 2, more than sixty years after its original release.

"We’re Made Up": Blossoms React to Chart Summit

In response to the news, the band issued a joint statement to Official Charts:

“We’re made up. To still be doing this 10 years on from our first album, and to still be getting to Number 1, isn’t something we take for granted. Thank you to everyone who bought it, played it or told a mate about it. See you on tour.”

In addition to leading the main chart, Songs From The Wedding Cake also reached Number 1 on the Official Record Store Chart. The Beatles’ Rubber Soul secured the top position on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.

Additional UK Chart Highlights: Johnny Marr and Fat Dog Achieve Notable Results

Beyond the battle for Number 1, several other notable releases made their mark across the UK Top 20:

• Johnny Marr: The former Smiths guitarist earned his second solo Top 5 record as The Age Of Everything debuted at Number 5, following up on the success of 2022's Fever Dreams Pts 1-4.

• Fat Dog: The South London seven-piece achieved their highest chart placement to date, with Cancel Me (I'm Tired) entering at Number 13.

• Olivia Rodrigo & Michael Jackson: Olivia Rodrigo held firm at Number 3 with You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In, while Michael Jackson's retrospective The Essential stayed consistent at Number 4.

• Drake: The hip-hop star re-entered the Top 20 at Number 20 with HABIBTI, propelled by a new expanded release.
