For 15 years, Oasis fans wondered what kind of big conversation might finally bring Noel and Liam Gallagher back together. In the end, the moment that led to their huge reunion in British music didn’t involve speeches or long apologies. It just took three simple words.
In new bonus footage on Disney+ from Don’t Look Back In Anger, the film about their big return, Noel Gallagher shared that ending their 15-year split happened without almost any words at all.
"Family is Different": No Grand Speeches Needed
After their well-known backstage fight at Paris’s Rock en Seine festival in 2009, the brothers didn’t speak for 15 years. Then, in 2024, they surprised everyone by announcing the Oasis Live '25 tour.
When they finally met face-to-face, Noel explained that being brothers meant they could bypass formal sit-downs altogether.
“It’s like family is different. It is just different. If it was two geezers like y’know John Lydon and Steve Jones you know there might have been a sit down, but family is different, you don’t have to say anything. It’s as simple as that.”
Addressing the constant questions from outsiders about their initial encounter, Noel added:
“You don’t have to justify not saying anything to anyone else. Everyone was saying to me ‘what was it like?’ And I was like, it wasn’t like anything. And they’re like ‘well what was said?’ I just said ‘how you doing?’. That was it.”
Peggy Gallagher: Staying Neutral Through 16 Years
The new footage also offers a warm look into the brothers' home life, particularly the role of their mother, Peggy Gallagher, who steadfastly refused to take sides during their high-profile feud.
Noel: “Even through the 16 years, she never took sides. She would never say… y’know she would never say anything.”
Liam: “She used to say ‘I am her favourite’.”
Noel: “She knows who the number one son is.”
Liam: “She used to put all my pictures up and then when he came round she took them down and put all his pictures up!”
From Awkward Rehearsals in Cardiff to "Equals"
The documentary charts the Gallagher brothers' journey as they moved from tense early rehearsals in Cardiff to a genuine, warm partnership by the time the tour wrapped up. Showcasing their transition from barely speaking to sitting down for a joint interview, the film captures how the road healed old wounds.
Reflecting on how their old friction melted away, Noel admitted:
“All the little things that used to annoy us about each other have suddenly all gone away, it’s not a power struggle anymore, we’ve come out now as equals.”
“We never used to text each much but now we text each other stupid videos like two mates would. We’re in contact way way way more often than we ever were. It was all forgiven without saying a word. I use this word to describe what he has been like, a word I never thought I would use to describe him, which is delightful.”
For Liam, returning to the stage alongside his brother brought an undeniable sense of relief and perspective:
“It feels like a weight has been lifted. We all said s*** that didn’t matter. I didn’t realise it was coming out of my mouth, half the s***. That’s the way it is. The music brought us back together. Oasis man. Oasis saves.”
With their bond firmly restored and old squabbles put to rest, the Gallaghers are set to step back out onto the stage together once again for the upcoming Oasis Live ’27 tour.
