£12,000 Man City Epiphone Leads Major Oasis Archive Sale

A custom Manchester City blue 1997 Epiphone guitar previously owned by Noel Gallagher sold for £12,000 at a Worcestershire auction house, BBC News reports. Offered by Littleton Auctions, the limited-edition instrument was part of a major archive of Oasis memorabilia brought to market by the son of former front-of-house sound engineer Huw Richards.

The guitar is one of only five identical models made specifically for Gallagher in 1997 before he later passed it directly to Richards.

Platinum Discs, Rare Apparel, and Unsold Artwork

The Richards collection generated strong interest across several key lots. A set of 11 framed Creation Records platinum presentation discs—awarded to mark UK sales exceeding 3.3 million copies of (What's the Story) Morning Glory?—fetched £2,000. An official tour crew Kangol rain jacket sold for £2,000, while original tour itineraries, marketing collateral, and a Be Here Now promotional wristwatch also found buyers.

Items submitted by other consignors further demonstrated the market for early-era Oasis artefacts:

    • Early Demo Cassette: Sold for £3,600.

    • Original Concert Ticket for The Rain: The pre-Oasis line-up ticket fetched £2,400.

    • Vintage Photo Collection: A set of early band photographs reached £5,400.

    • Noel Gallagher’s Footwear: A pair of leather shoes belonging to the guitarist went for £1,200.

Not every high-profile piece reached its reserve, however. The original baby grand piano featured in the cover artwork for the band's 1994 debut single "Supersonic", which carried a pre-sale estimate of £100,000 to £150,000, failed to sell.
