Johnny Marr has offered fans a fresh insight into Noel Gallagher's current studio activities, revealing that 'The Chief' is in great spirits, writing and recording new material, and constantly texting him about Manchester United and guitar gear.
Johnny Marr drops hints on new music from Noel on Absolute Radio Interview
Speaking on Absolute Radio, The Smiths legend was asked how his long-time friend and collaborator was doing behind the scenes. Marr gave an affectionate update on Gallagher’s relaxed, pressure-free creative routine.
"Same as always, brilliant. Yeah, he's great—writing songs for fun, recording songs, enjoying himself," Marr revealed. "You know, sending me hilarious WhatsApps, usually about Manchester United and lots and lots of effects pedals. Which is, you know, the way our relationship's gone for 30-odd years now. So in many ways, he's exactly the same as when I first met him."
The long-time friends and collaborators have shared the studio on numerous occasions over the years, with Marr contributing guitar work to several Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds tracks, including hits like "Ballad of the Mighty I" and "Pretty Boy."
It all begs the question: could an Oasis studio album be quietly in the works for 2027?
