Notre-Dame first hit our ear drums back in 2023. Morrissey performed the track live multiple times, although it was never been officially released. Originally, the track was set for the unreleased album Without Music The World Dies. However Notre-Dame’s fate is now at the mercy of the album Make-up is a Lie ; releases 6th March.

The track is unequivocally Morrissey. In Morrisseys distinctive style the track includes challenging lyrics that focus on the famous French cathedral that suffered a devastating fire in 2019.

As much of Morrisseys work this track is not without controversy and public opinion is predictably in limbo. Notre-Dame is emulsified with haunting lyrics, courage and bravery. Saturated with unease, suspicion and defiance.

“Notre-Dame we know who tried to kill you

Notre-Dame we will not be silent”

“Before investigations they said there’s nothing to see here”

Thought provoking and unapologetic. Morrissey continues to drive forward challenging boundaries. Whilst the rest retreat.

It’s a reminder uncover truth with your own exploration and a symbol that the suppression of truth is an evergrowing struggle. Notre-Dame is an exercise in truth seeking.
