As the month comes to a close, here are five September singles to see you through it’s closing week - with indie-rock anthems, glistening indie-pop and one or two melancholic melodies, there’s sure to be something on this list for every indie lover out there.

1 Fall In Love - Overpass, Nieve Ella

“Fall In Love” by Overpass is the yearner’s anthem you’ve been waiting for, exploring all the pain and bitter-sweet amenities that come with letting go in your early adulthood. If you’ve ever had to fall apart to let yourself learn to love again, this track will resonate that message for you in a way other artists often struggle to articulate. The track’s instrumentation feels somewhat inexplicably 90s inspired - it’s dreamy and nostalgic, but with a slight grungy undertone synonymous with the gritty truth of the song’s message - that sometimes, to beg for somebody’s mercy in letting you go is easier than letting go yourself. Nieve Ella’s vocal additions offer a sense of the opposite perspective, seemingly rounding out the track and giving it a new lease of life for the single edition. The track will fit perfectly in your rotation alongside artists/bands such as Wunderhorse, M60 or Nieve Ella herself.

“Fall in Love” is out now via Communion Music.

    2) Thank God - Isabel Hudson

"Thank God” is grassroots Northeast indie-pop newcomer Isabel Hudson’s debut single, a first attempt at pulling you into her nostalgic 80s-inspired dream world - and boy, does it succeed. The track is euphoric, a blend of electric ear-worm melodies with driven, choral guitars and lyrics that drag you - kicking and screaming - back to the coming-of-age love story that made you believe in love for the first time. Recorded between Liverpool and Newcastle, and produced by Josh Ingledew at Blank Studios, ’Thank God’ is the perfect debut, a stellar introduction to Hudson’s gleaming and emotional songwriting style. Whether you’re looking for a new track to fuel your morning run, or to accompany your evening commute, the track slots perfectly into your indiepop/indie-rock rotation between artists like Nieve Ella, Wolf Alice, Ellur and Holly Humberstone.

“Thank God” is out September 25th independently.

    3) I’ve Never Felt So Hated - Chloe Slater

Breakout indie-pop/rock star Chloe Slater’s “I’ve Never Felt So Hated” is a standout new single from the Bournemouth artist. The track feels like an undeniably important discussion, detailing online scrutiny and negativity as an inevitable reality of being a woman in the public eye in 2026. Slater’s own words describe “how easy it is in 2026 to watch a twenty-second video, or read a comment and form an opinion on someone with a complete lack of context”. The track almost feels like a self-inflicted therapy session that Slater is conducting herself, sprinkled with female rage that confesses a vulnerability within it’s anger. Paired with a prominent drum arrangement, booming bass and electronic elements, the track would be in good company alongside artists such as Blondshell, Lizzie Esau or Francis of Delirium.

“I’ve Never Felt So Hated” is out now via Stolen Juice (AWAL).

    4) Bird On The Wire - Keo

“Bird On The Wire” from Keo is the perfect companion to your mid-week melancholia. It’s a haunting yet comforting delivery of the feeling of needing to bend until you break to keep somebody’s interest. The track burns slow, beginning with distant guitar chords and intimate vocals from lead vocalist Fin Keogh, building to a euphoric and dreamy outer-section that makes you feel as though you’re levitating from your seat as you stare out the train window. The song feels like a third-party confession of what you’re too scared to say out loud yourself, and that seems to be why it resonates so well. Written and produced by the band’s frontman, Keogh’s writing feels confessional at the highest level.

“Bird On The Wire” is out now via Island Records.

    5) animal - Josie Oliver

Josie Oliver’s “animal” is the latest single from the London-based independent artist, and it delivers the most beautiful message. The track is an exploration of everything it means to be human - the fear, the anger, and every instinct that keeps you trapped inside your own head. With a truly cathartic energy, the track unleashes a kind of feeling that makes you sigh in relief knowing you’re not the only one who feels such a way. With driving pop production, and a chorus that just hits you deep no matter how many times you play it over - the song finds a home in your heart after the first listen and refuses to make a departure. Off the back of a support slot for Sam Smith at the London Coliseum, the track places Josie Oliver at the centre of up-and-coming Indie-pop - and will live peacefully in your playlist alongside artists like Gracie Abrams, Siobhan Winifred or Holly Humberstone.

    “animal” is out now independently
