Morrissey has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after accusing the BBC of refusing to play his latest single, Notre-Dame, while claiming that "diversity is a lie."
The former Smiths frontman made the comments on his website, arguing that the BBC promotes an image of musical diversity that doesn't match reality. According to Morrissey, his new material has been ignored by the broadcaster despite continued support from fans.
In his statement, Morrissey wrote:
"Diversity is a lie."
He went on to question why Notre-Dame has received no BBC airplay, suggesting the broadcaster only supports artists who fit its current editorial direction rather than simply backing new music on merit.
The comments are the latest in a long line of public criticisms from Morrissey, who has frequently spoken out against the music industry, broadcasters and record labels throughout his career.
His latest album, Make-Up Is A Lie, arrived earlier this year, with Notre-Dame serving as one of its key singles.
Whether fans agree with his views or not, Morrissey remains one of British music's most outspoken figures. When he has something to say, he rarely says it quietly. Humans keep acting surprised by this, despite several decades of evidence to the contrary.
