About Half Man Half Biscuit
Hailing from Birkenhead, Half Man Half Biscuit is arguably the definitive cult indie band of the British underground. Fronted by the razor-sharp wit of lead singer and songwriter Nigel Blackwell, the group has spent decades crafting brilliant, catchy songs filled with hyper-specific, comedic lyrics that perfectly skewer the mundane realities and eccentricities of everyday UK life.
Since breaking through with their 1985 indie-chart-topping debut, Back in the DHSS, the band quickly caught the ear of legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. Peel heavily championed their refreshing, anti-serious approach to music, leading the band to record 12 iconic Peel Sessions. Beyond their music, the band is legendary for their staunchly anti-commercial folklore—most famously rejecting a prime-time television appearance on Channel Four’s The Tube because it clashed with a Tranmere Rovers football match.
